Presendential Question about Union Parking

(July 30, 2007)

In order to further improve the lines of communication and to respond to the concerns between the National VA Council and you our members, I have established a National VA Council Briefing. This NVAC Briefing will bring you the latest news and developments within DVA and provide you with the current status of issues this Council is currently addressing. I believe that this NVAC Briefing will greatly enhance the way in which we communicate and the way in which we share new information, keeping you better informed.

National VA Council, President

In This Briefing: Your Assistance is Needed

To: All Locals

As you are aware, Contract Negotiations took place in Portland, Oregon last week.  We discussed Article 25, “Parking and Transportation”.  VA claims there are NOT enough parking spaces at some facilities for any reserved parking.  VA also does NOT want the Union to keep the current parking spaces they have and they also believe that all reserved parking for both the Union and bargaining unit members should be negotiated at the local level, where they plan to take all the reserved parking for employees and the union away.

I would like to know how many Directors, Associate Directors, Chief of Staff (at the VHA) have reserved parking spaces at your facility.  For VBA it would be the Director or Associate Director.  Also, if so, could you provide a picture of the reserved parking signs.  Please send this information to James King (james.king3@va.gov) at the NVAC Office.  We will need this information, should we go to impasse on the Parking & Transportation Article.  I appreciate your assistance with this task!
