In order to further improve the lines of communication and to respond to the concerns between the National VA Council and you our members, I have established a National VA Council Briefing. This NVAC Briefing will bring you the latest news and developments within DVA and provide you with the current status of issues this Council is currently addressing. I believe that this NVAC Briefing will greatly enhance the way in which we communicate and the way in which we share new information, keeping you better informed.

In This Briefing: 3^rd Day of Contract Negotiations in Long Beach, CA

Contract updates from Long Beach, California.  Today, September 26, 2007 was the third day of the Negotiation Sessions.

Discussion on Article 41, “Dues Withholding,” continued and finally ended, with that Article being signed off on by both parties, and with NO loss.  Management wanted to be able to give employees the 1188 form to drop from the Union.  However, we did NOT agree to that language.  But we did agree that the Union is the authorized representative to give out the 1188 form and that the 1188 form was also available on the OPM website. 

We have now moved on to discussing Article 29, “Silent Monitoring”.

Again, much thanks to all the surrounding Locals for their continued support this week during these long negotiation sessions. Today, we had Ms. Vera Logan, President of Local #1203, Mr. Charles Bonds from Local #1061, and Ms. Sandra Lee of Local #2297, as observers.
